Pre-Season Baseline SCAT-3 Assessment for Concussions

The purpose of this service is to establish the condition of an athlete (professional or recreational) practicing a sport at risk of concussions before an incident occurs. Thus, the so-called “baseline” condition of the athlete is documented and can be used as a comparison during the recovery of a concussion.

During the evaluation, the standardized questionnaire called SCAT-3 is completed while the athlete is in his “normal” state. This questionnaire is also completed when a concussion is suspected, in the practice of a sport, to objectify the signs and symptoms present.

Several physical and cognitive spheres are evaluated by this test, namely: the intensity of the symptoms felt following an impact on the head, the state of consciousness, the current, previous and delayed memory, orientation, concentration, neck mobility, balance, and coordination. More than one of these spheres can be affected during a concussion and their recovery is not always at the same speed. The initial assessment allows us to evaluate specific parameters and set baseline comparisons for when going through rehabilitation. Thus, we ensure a safer return to sports.
